We cordially invite you to the 2010 joint meeting of the Agriculture, Food & Human Values Society, the Association for the Study of Food and Society and the Society for the Anthropology of Food & Nutrition – FOOD IN BLOOM  – which will convene on the scenically beautiful, academically renown and culturally rich Bloomington campus of Indiana University June 2 – 5, 2010.

FOOD IN BLOOM will celebrate the interconnectedness of food studies and promote the understanding of food and agriculture.  The conference will cover a broad spectrum of topics leading to a robust cross pollination of disciplines, theories and methods.   In parallel with the spectrum of topics will be a healthy mix of presentations, panels, roundtables, poster presentations, excursions, dining experiences and  invigorating conversation.

We encourage you to learn more about our community and our university by reading “About Indiana University” and “About Bloomington” on this web site.  Our university and our community cannot boast the same kind of culinary traditions or attractions as Boston or New Orleans – our local specialties tend toward fish and game, fried pork tenderloins, barbecue and fresh garden vegetables. But in many ways, Bloomington is typical of the small-town North America, and it shares some of the exciting movements taking place in the heartland and at the grassroots of North America.

Please join us, friends and colleagues.  We have much to offer and much to share.

A similar cross pollination also characterizes agriculture and food studies as intellectual domains.   Food is inherently cross-disciplinary, requiring scholarly flexibility and integration.  Our research and writing becomes more robust by manifesting cross pollination  of  theories and methods.  Furthermore, students of food...[more]
