POST-CONFERENCE EXCURSIONS - Sunday, June 6, 2010

Foraging Tour - Sunday, 8:00 to 12:00

This day will introduce us to the abundance of wild foods growing seasonally in the temperate deciduous forests of southern Indiana. With longtime foragers, we will take to the woods to learn what sorts of edibles await. The day will bring us an understanding of how these foods have contributed over time to our regional menu. Some of them, such as ginseng, mushrooms, pawpaws and persimmons, have never fallen off of the seasonal cycle of outings families make to the woods that surround us. Others are finding a place on the plate once again through the work of champions such as chef Daniel Orr. After our foraging trip, Chef Orr himself welcomes us to FARM Bloomington, his restaurant in downtown Bloomington, to discuss using foraged foods.
